1. ARIZONA CARDINALS - Kyler Murray / QB / Oklahoma
The Cardinals follow through on their franchise pivot to Kliff Kingsbury and draft his desired centerpiece in Murray. All hell breaks loose on every mock in existence if it doesn’t go down this way.
2. SAN FRANCISCO 49ers - Nick Bosa / EDGE / Ohio State
San Francisco has had plenty of time to ponder the top options besides Kyler Murray, namely Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams, but ultimately go with the pure edge rusher with undeniable NFL genetics.
3. NEW YORK JETS - Quinnen Williams / INTERIOR / Alabama
New York’s greater need is on the edge, but elite defensive prospects have fallen to the Jets multiple times in recent years (Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams both at #6) and they haven’t hesitated to trust their board and snap them up. The same should happen here, if Bosa or Williams are ultimately available.
4. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Josh Allen / EDGE / Kentucky
Disappointed to miss out on Williams and Bosa, the Raiders fill that edge rush need created by the Khalil Mack deal with the best rusher available. Josh Allen’s high-motor intensity matches the kind of player Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock would have raved about in their TV days.
5. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - Ed Oliver / INTERIOR / Houston
The Bucs make an aggressive move on a high upside talent to build the backbone of Bruce Arians & Todd Bowles’ new defense. They could also consider the wide open linebacker and offensive line boards with this pick.
6. NEW YORK GIANTS - Dwayne Haskins / QB / Ohio State
It’s scary to say but also quite possible that the Giants will head into the draft with an open mind… and undecided about this 6th pick. If the board plays out this way, the pressure will be on Dave Gettleman with the seemingly well fitting Haskins staring him in the face. The decision will likely come down to Haskins or Devin White.
7. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Jawaan Taylor / OT / Florida
Jacksonville has a big time need and Taylor looks a very good bet to fill it. With no playmakers off the board yet, there’s also the less likely option that the Jags look to make a splash with this pick.
8. DETROIT LIONS - Devin White / LB / LSU
Satisfied with exactly the kind of player Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia will be hoping for in this spot, the Lions rush the podium to take Devin White here at #8. I also think they will be open to taking one of the defensive prospects above, if they should fall.
9. BUFFALO BILLS - TJ Hockenson / TE / Iowa
It would be an aggressive move for Buffalo to take a tight end here, but Hockenson is a rare prospect at the position. He would be a stabilizing force for a somewhat-wonky offense under the young Josh Allen both as a pass catching target and phenomenal blocker.
10. DENVER BRONCOS - Christian Wilkins / INT / Clemson
This is the most creative pick of this entire mock draft, but I think John Elway will surprise us here. He’ll be under intense pressure to take Drew Lock in this scenario, but I think he will refuse to reach for a non-elite QB prospect again. Instead he will choose to build around last year’s top selection Bradley Chubb with an extremely accomplished and high-character teammate on the defensive front.
11. CINCINNATI BENGALS - Drew Lock / QB / Missouri
The Bengals held out on a coaching regime change for a ludicrously long time but now that change is in the air, one must assume they are open to taking a QB here. If Lock makes it to #11, it’s difficult to see them passing.
12. GREEN BAY PACKERS - Brian Burns / EDGE / Florida State
I’m suspicious the Packers are itching to make an offensive splash with this pick, and may be targeting TJ Hockenson. Perhaps they have fallen in love with a wide receiver and are relatively likely to have their pick of the bunch here. If things play out according to this scenario, I think Green Bay decides to trust their board and continue their effort to rejuvenate the pass rush.
13. MIAMI DOLPHINS - Rashan Gary / EDGE / Michigan
It’s highly possible that Miami is targeting an offensive lineman here in preparation for next year’s QB draftee. Such are the times in today’s NFL. However, I would bet that their top priority for this pick is best available player and in this scenario with top edge rushers flying off the board, Gary could fit the bill.
14. ATLANTA FALCONS - Jonah Williams / G/T / Alabama
Jonah Williams is likely to slide a bit because of the doubt over his true position, and the Falcons will probably be looking to at least try him at tackle. I love the player and he wants to play tackle, so this might be a match. Either way, Atlanta would love for him to be available here.
15. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Daniel Jones / QB / Duke
The team most associated with trade rumors is in need of a QB and looking to land one in this draft. I actually think we already know Washington strongly prefers Murray and Haskins, hence the aggressive attempt to move up, but if they stay at #15 I think they will have the opportunity to take Daniel Jones. They may need to make this move for lack of other options.
16. CAROLINA PANTHERS - Garrett Bradbury / C / NC State
The pick makes suspiciously too much sense. Bradbury looks like a day 1, long term, impact starter. Previous long term impact starting center Ryan Khalil just retired at the end of last season. The value at #16 is correct. The one thing that might entice Carolina off the pick is the fact that, at least in this mock, the entire wide receiving class is still available for the taking.
17. NEW YORK GIANTS - Clelin Ferrell / EDGE / Clemson
18. MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Cody Ford / OL / Oklahoma
19. TENNESSEE TITANS - Montez Sweat / EDGE / Mississippi State
20. PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Devin Bush / LB / Michigan
21. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Greedy Williams / CB / LSU
22. BALTIMORE RAVENS - Marquise Brown / WR / Oklahoma
23. HOUSTON TEXANS - Andre Dillard / OT / Washington State
24. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Josh Jacobs / RB / Alabama
25. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Jeffery Simmons / INT / Mississippi State
26. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - DK Metcalf / WR / Mississippi
27. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Noah Fant / TE / Iowa
28. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS - Dexter Lawrence / INT / Clemson
29. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Deandre Baker / CB / Georgia
30. GREEN BAY PACKERS - Chris Lindstrom / G / Boston College
31. LOS ANGELES RAMS - Erik McCoy / C / Texas A&M
32. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - AJ Brown / WR / Mississippi
