1. CLEVELAND BROWNS - Myles Garrett, EDGE/TEXAS A&M (A)
Did what they had to do here. He's not Jadeveon Clowney, but he's the best player in this draft.
2. CHICAGO BEARS - Mitchell Trubisky, QB/UNC (C-)
It's a wild reach. The Bears are clearly smitten. I don't hate him, but it was a weird move for a team with a new QB and an opportunity to get a lot better in another area. (The Bears swapped Jay Cutler for Blake Bortles)
3. SAN FRANCISCO 49ers - Solomon Thomas, EDGE-INTERIOR/STANFORD (A)
The player, plus the beautiful money for nothing, picks for free trade makes this a windmill dunk for the Niners and the beginning of an outstanding night.
4. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Leonard Fournette, RB/LSU (B)
1. I'm not convinced Fournette is the best running back in this class. 2. It looks like a move made in an effort to bolster Blake Bortles, and it's hard to see things working out with him. 3. I similarly trashed Zeke Elliott in this spot a year ago.
5. TENNESSEE TITANS - Corey Davis, WR/WMU (B)
He was my third-rated WR in the class and he's coming off an injury after an incredible college career. Davis is an exciting prospect but there were still two other handfuls of players that I preferred on the board.
6. NEW YORK JETS - Jamal Adams, S/LSU (A)
The Jets once again reap the benefits of a top-of-the-draft talent drifting to them at #6. Adams is a great fit, both in ability and personality, in an area of need.
7. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS - Mike Williams, WR/CLEMSON (A)
There's been a lot of nitpicking over Williams' game, just like his teammate Deshaun Watson. But go ask anyone Williams competed against at Clemson if he is a great player. He, simply put, makes plays and he steps into an exciting situation.
8. CAROLINA PANTHERS - Christian McCaffrey, RB/STANFORD (B+)
You're getting Reggie Bush here. Which is exciting. But it means what it means. And adding Reggie Bush to this offense seems like a bit of an awkward fit. I believe in the kid though.
9. CINCINNATI BENGALS - John Ross, WR/WASHINGTON (A)
Huge fan of this pick. I think forcing Ross into an NFL #1 role is a bit of a stretch, especially early, but the beauty of this choice is his fit as a terrifying complement to AJ Green. The Bengals offense just took a big step forward.
10. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Patrick Mahomes, QB/TEXAS TECH (C+)
The win-now Chiefs just traded next year's first round pick to spend this year's first round pick on a player for next year. I like Mahomes but I love Watson, who seems a much more appropriate fit in Andy Reid's west-coast passing scheme.
11. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Marshon Lattimore, CB/OHIO STATE (A-)
The best player in the draft at his position in an area of dire need. I do wonder if New Orleans missed an opportunity to capitalize on one of the three falling defensive stars of the draft: Malik Hooker, Jonathan Allen and Reuben Foster.
12. HOUSTON TEXANS - Deshaun Watson, QB/CLEMSON (A)
If this had been Houston's natural draft position, and had Bill O'Brien not just bailed himself out of a disastrous QB situation with draft picks, this would be an A+ selection. It ends up being an extremely steep price for my #1 QB in the class, a price more equivalent to a #1 overall pick, but it's an almost perfect situation for the promising Watson.
13. ARIZONA CARDINALS - Haason Reddick, LB/TEMPLE (A-)
Should be an immediate fit in the Cardinals defense and has a high upside. One of the more interesting players in the entire draft.
14. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Derek Barnett, EDGE/TENNESSEE (B+)
Good pass rushers are never a bad thing to add, but there were higher-impact defensive players available. And Dalvin Cook. That one seemed like a great fit.
15. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Malik Hooker, S/OHIO STATE (A+)
The first of a surprising run where some of the best prospects in the draft were snagged in the teens. Hooker has tremendous potential as a defensive playmaker and he's a steal here. Even if Dalvin Cook again appeared to be an excellent fit. Perhaps the Eagles or Colts make it happen with Cook in Round 2.
16. BALTIMORE RAVENS - Marlon Humphrey, CB/ALABAMA (D+)
Probably my least favorite pick of the round. Better players were still floating around and the Ravens slightly reached to fill a need with a large quantity of comparable corners still on the board.
17. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Jonathan Allen, INTERIOR/ALABAMA (A+)
How did this happen? Another one of the falling stars is a steal for the Redskins. He'll be a high-impact player and a great fit in this defense.
18. TENNESSEE TITANS - Adoree' Jackson, CB/USC (B)
An underwhelming, but not bad, pick. I think Tennessee slightly reached twice in this round. But they added two players in areas of need.
19. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - OJ Howard, TE/ALABAMA (A+)
I'm really going crazy with the A-pluses here but this is another incredible steal. Jameis Winston is waking up this morning like a kid on Christmas. One of the very best players in the draft off the board at #19.
20. DENVER BRONCOS - Garrett Bolles, OT/UTAH (B)
It's a solid pick in an area of dire need. I had two tackles rated ahead of Bolles, but not by a huge margin.
21. DETROIT LIONS - Jarrad Davis, LB/FLORIDA (B)
Davis was the fourth or fifth best player on the Gators defense last year so to see him snapped up at #21 was jarring. Especially with Reuben Foster on the board. But he'll start right away and has good upside.
22. MIAMI DOLPHINS - Charles Harris, EDGE/MISSOURI (B+)
This pick has all the trimmings of a best-on-board selection, and it's hard to argue with that. Especially when we're talking about adding to the pass rush.
23. NEW YORK GIANTS - Evan Engram, TE/OLE MISS (B)
A surprising reach on a high-risk, high-upside prospect. Although his explosive athleticism is an exciting fit with Odell Beckham Jr, Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard. Better players bypassed here in an very uncharacteristic move for the Giants.
24. OAKLAND RAIDERS - Gareon Conley, CB/OHIO STATE (F)
A polygraph test? Really? Why take this risk? In an absurdly CB-wealthy draft class? Only questions here. That said, I obviously hope no crime was committed and this risk ends up paying off.
25. CLEVELAND BROWNS - Jabrill Peppers, S/MICHIGAN (B+)
Comparable tweener players have been fashionable and the Browns are just looking to add talent at this point with no real specific positional needs anyway. But the pick carries some risk with it.
26. ATLANTA FALCONS - Takkarist McKinley, EDGE/UCLA (B)
That speech was something else. Very high-upside prospect who plays with speed and fits Atlanta in both style and need.
27. BUFFALO BILLS - Tre'Davious White, CB/LSU (A-)
I like what Buffalo did in the first round, utilizing the class depth at corner to gain a 2018 first round pick and take a very exciting player in an area of need at #27.
28. DALLAS COWBOYS - Taco Charlton, EDGE/MICHIGAN (B-)
There's a lot to like about Charlton, but he's a clear step beneath the edge rushers taken before him in explosiveness and experience.
29. CLEVELAND BROWNS - David Njoku, TE/CLEVELAND (B)
Hard to grade this one. It's a good value spot for a very promising player. But he has no quarterback and choosing Reuben Foster here would have completed a remarkable one-night defensive overhaul.
30. PITTSBURGH STEELERS - TJ Watt, EGDE/WISCONSIN (B+)
Still coming into his own as a player, Watt provides a fascinating upside. And the Steelers know what they're doing when selecting linebackers.
31. SAN FRANCISCO 49ers - Reuben Foster, LB/ALABAMA (A+)
San Francisco, you win the draft. His early entrance into the drug monitoring program is a concern, I get it. But this is a scary, day-one star with room to get much better.
32. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Ryan Ramczyk, OT/WISCONSIN (B)
Solid value for a player I expected to go sooner. But boy do I wonder if they were about to jump all over Reuben Foster.
