ARIZONA CARDINALS (B)
1 - 13. Haason Reddick, LB/Temple
2 - 36. Budda Baker, S/Wash
3 - 98. Chad Williams, WR/Grambling
4 - 115. Dorian Johnson, G/Pitt
5 - 157. Will Holden, T/Vanderbilt
5 - 179. TJ Logan, RB/UNC
6 - 208. Jonathan Ford, S/Auburn
The Cardinals got good value on a couple of impact defensive players early in the draft. Dorian Johnson was an inspired 4th round selection. You have to believe they're a little frustrated to miss out on a top wide receiver or Carson Palmer replacement. Chad Williams is a huge unknown.
ATLANTA FALCONS (C+)
1 - 26. Takk McKinley, EDGE/UCLA
3 - 75. Duke Riley, LB/LSU
4 - 136. Sean Harlow, G/Oregon State
5 - 149. Damontae Kazee, CB/SD ST
5 - 156. Brian Hill, RB/Wyoming
5 - 174. Eric Saubert, TE/Drake
Atlanta got appropriate value for a good scheme fit in Takkarist McKinley. Duke Riley will be a useful contributor as a sub package linebacker. The rest are developmental picks. It's hard for me to say the Falcons tangibly improved their team on draft weekend. Only one pick in the top 74 didn't help.
BALTIMORE RAVENS (A-)
1 - 16. Marlon Humphrey, CB/Alabama
2 - 47. Tyus Bowser, OLB/Houston
3 - 74. Chris Wormley, INTERIOR/Michigan
3 - 78. Tim Williams, EDGE/Alabama
4 - 122. Nico Siragusa, G/SD ST
5 - 159. Jermaine Eluemunor, T/Texas A&M
6 - 186. Chuck Clark, S/VA TECH
I wasn't high on Baltimore's first round selection of Marlon Humphrey when there were still so many quality corners on the board. But their next four picks were absolutely knocked out of the park, and when combined with Humphrey, make for an extremely impressive defensive overhaul. It will not surprise me in the slightest if Humphrey, Bowser, Wormley and Williams all become long-term contributors for the Ravens. They also did a great job snapping up a couple of potential starting offensive lineman on day three.
BUFFALO BILLS (B+)
1 - 27. Tre'Davious White, CB/LSU
2 - 37. Zay Jones, WR/ECU
2 - 63. Dion Dawkins, T/Temple
5 - 163. Matt Milano, LB/BC
5 - 171. Nathan Peterman, QB/Pitt
6 - 195. Tanner Vallejo, LB/Boise State
GM Doug Whaley was somehow fired after putting together a very solid weekend. Buffalo played the board well, acquiring a 2018 first rounder in a trade-back to still select one of the best corners in the draft and snagging sleeper QB prospect Nate Peterman at a phenomenal value spot. Dion Dawkins will be the immediate help they're seeking on the offensive line. And Zay Jones is a nice idea and good fit with legitimate WR2 potential.
CAROLINA PANTHERS (A-)
1 - 8. Christian McCaffrey, RB/Stanford
2 - 40. Curtis Samuel, WR/Ohio State
2 - 64. Taylor Moton, G/WMU
3 - 77. Daeshon Hall, EDGE/Texas A&M
5 - 152. Corn Elder, CB/Miami
6 - 192. Alex Armah, DE/TE/West Georgia
7 - 233. Harrison Butker, K/GT
The Panthers were one of the winners of the weekend but there was still an element of risk to their first two selections. However Carolina desperately needed to upgrade their offensive explosiveness and they landed two of the most explosive players in the entire draft. The next three picks were more practical and they got great round value on all three. Moton should eventually wind up a starter and Hall & Elder have a good chance of developing into first stringers as well.
CHICAGO BEARS (F)
1 - 2. Mitchell Trubisky, QB/UNC
2 - 45. Adam Shaheen, TE/Ashland
4 - 112. Eddie Jackson, S/Alabama
4 - 119. Tarik Cohen, RB/NC A&T
5 - 147. Jordan Morgan, G/Kutztown
Frankly a shocking of group of picks. You also have to consider the fact that they gave up a third and fourth rounder to move up one spot to reach for Trubisky. GM Ryan Pace decided he loved the QB and made a decisive move. That I can understand, even if I disagree with his evaluation. Every other pick here is a significant reach except for Eddie Jackson, who was no steal, but will contribute on Sundays.
CINCINNATI BENGALS (A-)
1 - 9. John Ross, WR/Washington
2 - 48. Joe Mixon, RB/Oklahoma
3 - 73. Jordan Willis, EGDE/KSU
4 - 116. Carl Lawson, EDGE/Auburn
4 - 128. Josh Malone, WR/Tennessee
4 - 138. Ryan Glasgow, INTERIOR/Michigan
5 - 153. Jake Elliott, K/Memphis
5 - 176. JJ Dielman, OT/Utah
6 - 193. Jordan Evans, LB/Oklahoma
6 - 207. Brandon Wilson, CB/Houston
7 - 251. Mason Schreck, TE/Buffalo
The Bengals brought in a huge new group of players over the weekend and made a splash with each of their first four picks. The Joe Mixon situation is complicated, but 48th overall is proper value for him and his addition, along with John Ross, will provide a significant boost to the offense on Sundays. They then got outstanding round value on edge rushers Jordan Willis and Carl Lawson, who both probably should have went a round earlier. Josh Malone, Ryan Glasgow, JJ Dielman and Jordan Evans were all solid selections as well.
CLEVELAND BROWNS (A)
1 - 1. Myles Garrett, EDGE/Texas A&M
1 - 25. Jabrill Peppers, S/Michigan
1 - 29. David Njoku, TE/Miami
2 - 52. DeShone Kizer, QB/Notre Dame
3 - 65. Larry Ogunjobi, INTERIOR/Charlotte
4 - 126. Howard Wilson, CB/Houston
5 - 160. Roderick Johnson, OT/FSU
6 - 185. Caleb Brantley, INTERIOR/Florida
7 - 224. Zane Gonzalez, K/Arizona State
7 - 252. Matthew Dayes, RB/NC State
It's shocking to type but the Browns had an outstanding weekend. They didn't reach on a single pick and added plenty of talent all over the field. They got the best prospect in the draft. Roderick Johnson was an inspired fifth round pick. And they played the QB board perfectly, avoiding the pitfall of trading up for Trubisky but not hesitating when DeShone Kizer fell to them at an excellent price. If they hadn't turned Malik Hooker into Jabrill Peppers by trading out of the #12 pick, this grade would be an A+.
DALLAS COWBOYS (B+)
1 - 28. Taco Charlton, EDGE/Michigan
2 - 60. Chidobe Awuzie, CB/Colorado
3 - 92. Jourdan Lewis, CB/Michigan
4 - 133. Ryan Switzer, WR/UNC
6 - 191. Xavier Woods, SS/LA Tech
6 - 216. Marquez White, CB/FSU
7 - 228. Joey Ivie, INTERIOR/Florida
7 - 239. Noah Brown, WR/Ohio State
7 - 246. Jordan Carrell, INTERIOR/Colorado
Awuzie and Switzer were two of the better picks of the entire weekend and I think it's extremely likely they will both be high-impact players for the Cowboys. The only knock there is Switzer's style similarity to Cole Beasley, but they will certainly find a way to utilize the under appreciated UNC star. They also addressed their need to add defensive talent with Charlton, Lewis, Woods and White - all sound selections. Jerry Jones has gotten very good at the whole draft thing, but this class is just a step beneath his last two hauls.
DENVER BRONCOS (B-)
1 - 20. Garrett Bolles, OT/Utah
2 - 51. DeMarcus Walker, EDGE/FSU
3 - 82. Carlos Henderson, WR/LA TECH
3 - 101. Brendan Langley, CB/Lamar
5 - 145. Jake Butt, TE/Michigan
5 - 172. Isaiah McKenzie, WR/Georgia
6 - 203. De’Angelo Henderson, RB/Coastal Carolina
7 - 253. Chad Kelly, QB/Ole Miss
The Broncos got appropriate value on their first two picks, and while Garrett Bolles will play right away, they could have done more to address the offensive line over the course of the weekend. DeMarcus Walker was a bit under-hyped coming into the draft, but he ends up being selected just about where I thought he belonged (had him at #54 on my board). Jake Butt is a tremendous fifth round pick. The rest of these selections were slightly underwhelming.
DETROIT LIONS (C)
1 - 21. Jarrad Davis, LB/Florida
2 - 53. Teez Tabor, CB/Florida
3 - 96. Kenny Golladay, WR/Northern Illinois
4 - 124. Jalen Reeves-Maybin, LB/Tennessee
4 - 127. Michael Roberts, TE/Toledo
5 - 165. Jamal Agnew, CB/San Diego
6 - 205. Jeremiah Ledbetter, INTERIOR/Arkansas
6 - 215. Brad Kaaya, QB/Miami
7 - 250. Pat O’Connor, EDGE/EMU
I don't believe the Lions got great value on any of their picks. As a Gator fan very familiar with the bodies of work of Jarrad Davis and Teez Tabor, I probably overranked them on my board at #28 and #43, respectively. But this is roughly the combined value the Lions got for the pair. After that, none of Detroit's picks blow me away considering their draft slots.
GREEN BAY PACKERS (A-)
2 - 33. Kevin King, CB/Washington
2 -61. Josh Jones, S/NC State
3 - 93. Montravius Adams, INTERIOR/Auburn
4 - 108. Vince Biegel, LB/Wisconsin
4 - 134. Jamaal Williams, RB/BYU
5 - 175. DeAngelo Yancey, WR/Purdue
5 - 182. Aaron Jones, RB/Texas-El Paso
6 - 212. Kofi Amichia, OG/USF
7 - 238. Devante Mays, RB/Utah State
7 - 247. Malachi Dupre, WR/LSU
Green Bay enjoyed one of the more fruitful weekends of any team, even after trading out of Round 1. The decision frustrated many Packers fans but Ted Thompson came through over the weekend, and I think there is reason to be excited about each of their first six picks. They didn't reach once in these selections, dramatically upgraded the secondary with two players poised to start in year one, and made sensible choices in areas of need through DeAngelo Yancey at 175. They took a couple of fliers late but it was ultimately an exciting class.
HOUSTON TEXANS (B+)
1 - 12. Deshaun Watson, QB/Clemson
2 - 57. Zach Cunningham, LB/Vanderbilt
3 - 89. D’Onta Foreman, RB/Texas
4 - 130. Julie’n Davenport, OT/Bucknell
4 - 142. Carlos Watkins, INTERIOR/Clemson
5 - 169. Treston Decoud, CB/Oregon State
7 - 243. Kyle Fuller, C/Baylor
It turned out to be an expensive draft for the Texans, who forfeited next year's first rounder to get their man in Deshaun Watson. But they picked the right man and will invite him into a perfect situation. Zach Cunningham definitely has immediate starter potential and was a bit of a steal at #57. I'm also a believer in D'Onta Foreman and think he could be a nice power compliment to Lamar Miller. The rest of the picks are developmental but Houston did enough right early to earn a B+ from me.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (A-)
1 - 15. Malik Hooker, S/Ohio State
2 - 46. Quincy Wilson, CB/Florida
3 - 80. Tarell Basham, EDGE/Ohio
4 - 137. Zach Banner, OG/USC
4 - 143. Marlon Mack, RB/USF
4 - 144. Grover Stewart, INTERIOR/Albany State
5 - 158. Nate Hairston, CB/Temple
5 - 161. Anthony Walker Jr, LB/Northwestern
The Colts needed a dramatic improvement to their secondary and accomplished this in the first two rounds without reaching at all. In fact, they got spectacular value on both Malik Hooker (one of the best defensive players in the draft and my #8 overall prospect) and Quincy Wilson (#25 on my board). Tarell Basham and especially Marlon Mack were fantastic value selections in areas of need and I could easily see each making a significant year one impact. I thought Forrest Lamp and Dalvin Cook were phenomenal fits here, but Indy missed out despite both players sliding into the second round. Zach Banner was a nice pick in the fourth, but he's probably no more than a depth player for the foreseeable future.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (A-)
1 - 4. Leonard Fournette, RB/LSU
2 - 34. Cam Robinson, OT/Alabama
3 - 68. Dawuane Smoot, EDGE/Illinois
4 - 110. Dede Westbrook, WR/Oklahoma
5 - 148. Blair Brown, LB/Ohio
7 - 222. Jalen Myrick, CB/Minnesota
7 - 240. Marquez Williams, FB/Miami
Jacksonville picked a competitive starting corner from the Big Ten who ran a 4.28 40 at the combine in the seventh round. They grabbed the biggest of the draft's top lineman (6' 6" 326) in the second round. Dawuane Smoot and Blair Brown could easily become crucial Sunday contributors very quickly. And then there's the addition of Fournette, who was certainly not a value selection at #4, but a major plus to the offense nonetheless. It was another good draft for the Jags and the pressure is squarely on Blake Bortles this season to hold up his end of the bargain.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (C)
1 - 10. Patrick Mahomes, QB/Texas Tech
2 - 59. Tanoh Kpassagnon, EDGE/Villanova
3 - 86. Kareem Hunt, RB/Toldeo
4 - 139. Jehu Chesson, WR/Michigan
5 - 183. Ukeme Eligwe, LB/Georgia Southern
6 - 218. Leon McQuay III, FS/USC
I'm not a huge fan of what Kansas City did here, but mainly because I'm a huge believer in their win-now potential. In a draft chocked with outstanding talent in the first two rounds, the Chiefs wound up spending resources to acquire a player for the long-term future in Mahomes and reach for a non-Division I edge rusher at #59. Kareem Hunt looks a perfect fit for Andy Reid but was no steal at #86. Jehu Chesson is a player with some upside but again was not a bargain in the fourth round. The one real positive is Kansas City now has a built-in Plan B if Alex Smith fails again this season. Which is a good thing because this draft only made that scenario all the more likely.
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (A)
1 - 7. Mike Williams, WR/Clemson
2 - 38. Forrest Lamp, OG/WKU
3 - 71. Dan Feeney, OG/Indiana
4 - 113. Rayshawn Jenkins, FS/Miami
5 - 151. Desmond King, FS/Iowa
6 - 190. Sam Tevi, OT/Utah
7 - 225. Isaac Rochell, EDGE/Notre Dame
The #4 and #13 players on my board went to the Chargers at #7 and #38, tremendous value for two quick-impact picks in Mike Williams and Forrest Lamp. Philip Rivers must be ecstatic that LA not only passed on drafting a quarterback, but backed him up with exactly his kind of playmaking target in Mike Williams, the best guard in the draft, and a second guard who I could easily see developing into a very solid starter. Desmond King was a steal in the fifth round and could also be an immediate contributor for the defense. This is a win-now situation, and unlike Kansas City, the Bolts treated the draft as such.
LOS ANGELES RAMS (D+)
2 - 44. Gerald Everett, TE/South Alabama
3 - 69. Cooper Kupp, WR/Eastern Washington
3 - 91. John Johnson, S/BC
4 - 117. Josh Reynolds, WR/Texas A&M
4 - 125. Sam Ebukam, EDGE/Eastern Washington
6 - 189. Tanzel Smart, INTERIOR/Tulane
6 - 206. Sam Rogers, FB/Virginia Tech
7 - 234. Ejuan Price, EDGE/Pittsburgh
The Rams were down a first round pick this year and clearly desperate to add to Jared Goff's weapons to avoid a total meltdown for their #1 overall selection from a year ago. Gerald Everett was a pretty wild reach at #44, although he does have some scouts championing his cause. Cooper Kupp was a legitimately good third round choice. After that, this class looks like a bunch of players that will just be happy to make the team come August.
MIAMI DOLPHINS (B+)
1 - 22. Charles Harris, EDGE/Missouri
2 - 54. Raekwon McMillan, LB/Ohio State
3 - 97. Cordrea Tankersly, CB/Clemson
5 - 164. Isaac Asiata, OG/Utah
5 - 178. Davon Godchaux, INTERIOR/LSU
6 - 194. Vincent Taylor, INTERIOR/Oklahoma State
7 - 237. Isaiah Ford, WR/Virginia Tech
What an interesting weekend for Fins GM Chris Grier, who tapped into his Patriots roots for this draft in 1. remaining extremely loyal to his board and 2. preferring high-pedigree players from major programs (even though Bill Belichick severely strayed from the second philosophy in this particular draft). Look at the list of schools: Missou, Ohio State, Clemson, Utah, LSU, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech. That's my kind of drafting. I commented after their first round selection of Charles Harris that it wreaked of a "best-on-board" pick. Little did I know that the rest of the weekend would have the exact same smell. Which sounds like a bad thing, I know, but it isn't.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (B-)
2 - 41. Dalvin Cook, RB/FSU
3 - 70. Pat Elfein, C/Ohio State
4 - 109. Jaleel Johnson, INTERIOR/Iowa
4 - 120. Ben Gedeon, LB/Michigan
5 - 170. Rodney Adams, WR/USF
5 - 180. Danny Isidora, OG/Miami
6 - 201. Bucky Hodges, TE/Virginia Tech
7 - 219. Stacy Coley, WR/Miami
7 - 220. Ifeadi Odenigbo, EDGE/Northwestern
7 - 232. Elijah Lee, LB/Kansas State
7 - 245. Jack Tocho, CB/NC State
Minnesota didn't pick in the first round but got a first round talent anyway in Dalvin Cook, who fell into their laps at #41. I believe Pat Elfein has starter potential and was a solid value selection at #70. After that, Minnesota added some interesting players, but none pop off the page as obvious potentially immediate contributors.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (B+)
3 - 83. Derek Rivers, EDGE/Youngstown State
3 - 85. Antonio Garcia, OT/Troy
4 - 131. Deatrich Wise Jr, EDGE/Arkansas
6 - 211. Conor McDermott, OT/UCLA
It's hard to grade only four picks but Derek Rivers was a good choice at #83 and I can easily see him playing a significant role in the Patriots' front seven next season. Deatrich Wise Jr is an impressive and underappreciated talent who makes for a very exciting fourth round pick. Add a couple of depth offensive line selections to the mix and you have a perfectly solid micro class.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (B)
1 - 11. Marshon Lattimore, CB/Ohio State
1 - 32. Ryan Ramczyk, OT/Wisconsin
2 - 42. Marcus Williams, FS/Utah
3 - 67. Alvin Kamara, RB/Tennessee
3 - 76. Alex Anzalone, LB/Florida
3 - 103. Trey Hendrickson, EDGE/FAU
6 - 196. Al-Quadin Muhammad, EDGE/Miami
It was a weird draft for New Orleans, as they added some very good players but went about it in a puzzling way. Lattimore at #11 was a no-brainer slam dunk selection even if I would have preferred Malik Hooker. After that, things started to go south. Ramczyk was a decent value selection at #32 but the Saints have no pressing need at tackle. They also just signed Adrian Peterson, making Alvin Kamara's appropriate value choice at #67 very odd. Alex Anzalone and Trey Hendrickson both have potential but each were chosen early with third round selections. Still, it's a lineup of promising players who all look like they could believably compete for year one action.
NEW YORK GIANTS (C+)
1 - 23. Evan Engram, TE/Ole Miss
2 - 55. Dalvin Tomlinson, INTERIOR/Alabama
3 - 87. Davis Webb, QB/California
4 - 140. Wayne Gallman, RB/Clemson
5 - 167. Avery Moss, EDGE/Youngstown State
6 - 200. Adam Bisnowaty, OT/Pittsburgh
I was not a fan of the Evan Engram choice in round one and I flat-out hate the Davis Webb selection at #87, even if he did "fall" to them. There is little reason to expect Webb to be anything more than a backup. In my opinion, the Giants are mistaken if they believe him to be Eli Manning's heir apparent and they could have used the pick on a more urgently useful player. Especially with Nathan Peterman on the board until the fifth round. Dalvin Tomlinson was an excellent pick and will be an important part of the Giants interior defense for years to come. Wayne Gallman gives the Giants another RB2 to pair with Paul Perkins, but they let potentially ideal RB1s in Dalvin Cook and Alvin Kamara go by the wayside.
NEW YORK JETS (B+)
1 - 6. Jamal Adams, S/LSU
2 - 39. Marcus Maye, S/Florida
3 - 79. ArDarius Stewart, WR/Alabama
4 - 141. Chad Hansen, WR/California
5 - 150. Jordan Leggett, TE/Clemson
5 - 181. Dylan Donahue, LB/West Georgia
6 - 188. Elijah McGuire, RB/UL Lafayette
6 - 197. Jeremy Clark, CB/Michigan
6 - 204. Derrick Jones, CB/Ole Miss
The Jets had a surprisingly solid weekend but they made a misstep with their Marcus Maye selection at #39 (even though I like the player quite a bit and had him at #50 on my board). Two safeties selected with so many other areas of need was overkill, and the Jets left Dalvin Cook, Curtis Samuel, Quincy Wilson, Tyus Bowser, Zach Cunningham, Raekwon McMillan and Dalvin Tomlinson on the board. I loved their next three selections however, especially Jordan Leggett in the fifth round. He should soon be the Jets starting tight end.
OAKLAND RAIDERS (C)
1 - 24. Gareon Conley, CB/Ohio State
2 - 56. Obi Melifonwu, S/UConn
3 - 88. Eddie Vanderdoes, INTERIOR/UCLA
4 - 129. David Sharpe, OT/Florida
5 - 168. Marquel Lee, LB/Wake Forest
7 - 221. Shalom Luani, S/WSU
7 - 231. Jylan Ware, OT/Alabama State
7 - 242. Elijah Hood, RB/UNC
7 - 244. Treyvon Hester, INTERIOR/Toledo
Very tough to grade this group, as Gareon Conley could turn out to be a disaster or a steal. Obi Melifonwu was a great choice and I think this is a perfect environment to cultivate his absolutely top-notch potential. David Sharpe was a nice fourth round pick who will very likely end up on the field on Sundays. None of the other names here blow my hair back.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (B-)
1 - 14. Derek Barnett, EDGE/Tennessee
2 - 43. Sidney Jones, CB/Washington
3 - 99. Rasul Douglas, CB/WVU
4 - 118. Mack Hollins, WR/UNC
4 - 132. Donnel Pumphrey, RB/SD State
5 - 166. Shelton Gibson, WR/WVU
5 - 184. Nathan Gerry, S/Nebraska
6 - 214. Elijah Qualls, INTERIOR/Washington
Derek Barnett and Sidney Jones were appropriately slotted value choices in areas of need. Donnel Pumphrey was one of the more exciting Saturday selections and looks to be potentially great fit in this offense. Rasul Douglas and Mack Hollins are mildly interesting hit-or-miss picks. All in all, it was a solid weekend for Philadelphia, but they failed to truly make a splash.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (D+)
1 - 30. TJ Watt, EDGE/Wisconsin
2 - 62. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR/USC
3 - 94. Cam Sutton, CB/Tennessee
3 - 105. James Conner, RB/Pittsburgh
4 - 135. Joshua Dobbs, QB/Tennessee
5 - 173. Brian Allen, CB/Utah
6 - 213. Colin Holba, LS/Louisville
7 - 248. Keion Adams, EDGE/WMU
It's not a very popular opinion, but I am completely vexed by the Steelers' selections this year. First, they slightly reached for a player who has potential but seemed like a much better second round fit. Given his genetics, I can at least understand the TJ Watt pick. After that, they took a player in an area of very little need who is less athletic than their current options at wide receiver. Next, they took an undersized, nondescript defensive back from Tennessee a tad early in the third round. They then selected running back James Conner, a high-character man with an incredible and inspiring story, but certainly not a bargain in the third round. Next, it was Joshua Dobbs, a developmental QB, who I projected as a fourth-rounder but graded as a six-rounder. Then, to top it off, Pittsburgh took a long snapper in the sixth round. To me, each pick was more bizarre than the last.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ers (B+)
1 - 3. Solomon Thomas, EDGE/Stanford
1 - 31. Reuben Foster, LB/Alabama
3 - 66. Ahkello Witherspoon, CB/Colorado
3 - 104. CJ Beathard, QB/Iowa
4 - 121. Joe Williams, RB/Utah
5 - 146. George Kittle, TE/Iowa
5 - 177. Trent Taylor, WR/LA Tech
6 - 198. DJ Jones, DT/Ole Miss
6 - 202. Pita Taumoepenu, EDGE/Utah
7 - 229. Adrian Colbert, CB/Miami
Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch got off to a blazing start with a historically good Thursday night. But things went south quickly from there. CJ Beathard was one of my least favorite picks of the draft. I did not grade him as draftable and yet the Niners traded up to take him in the third round. And this with Nathan Peterman, a dramatically superior prospect, still floating around into the fifth round. Nothing they did after Thursday was very impressive to me, but San Francisco gets a B+ anyway on the heels of their first round brilliance.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (C+)
2 - 35. Malik McDowell, INTERIOR/Michigan State
2 - 58. Ethan Pocic, OG/LSU
3 - 90. Shaquil Griffin, CB/UCF
3 - 95. Delano Hill, S/Michigan
3 - 102. Nazair Jones, INTERIOR/UNC
3 - 106. Amara Darboh, WR/Michigan
4 - 111. Tedric Thompson, S/Colorado
6 - 187. Mike Tyson, S/Cincinnati
6 - 210. Justin Senior, OT/Mississippi State
7 - 226. David Moore, WR/East Central
7 - 249. Chris Carson, RB/Oklahoma State
The Hawks improved on the defensive interior with the value selections of Malik McDowell at #35 and Nazair Jones at #102. I have little doubt that both will contribute significantly. Ethan Pocic, Shaquil Griffin, Delano HIll & Amara Darboh are all interesting additions, but they also all feel like reaches. On the one hand, you want to trust the Seahawks' scouts who have proven themselves over the years. But there was very little get excited about from their 2017 choices.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (B+)
1 - 19. OJ Howard, TE/Alabama
2 - 50. Justin Evans, SS/Texas A&M
3 - 84. Chris Godwin, WR/Penn State
3 - 107. Kendell Beckwith, LB/LSU
5 - 162. Jeremy McNichols, RB/Boise State
7 - 223. Stevie Tu'ikolovatu, INTERIOR/USC
OJ Howard at #19 was one of the great heists of this draft and a dream fit in Tampa. And I always envisioned Kendell Beckwith as a formidable NFL starter while watching him in college, although he is coming back from a knee injury. Justin Evans was a reach but not a bad pick in the second round and the Chris Godwin selection seems like a waste considering the weapons already in place for the Bucs. The value pick of Jeremy McNichols in the fifth round saved the B+ here.
TENNESSEE TITANS (C+)
1 - 5. Corey Davis, WR/WMU
1 - 18. Adoree' Jackson, CB/USC
3 - 72. Taywan Taylor, WR/WKU
3 - 100. Jonnu Smith, TE/FIU
5 - 155. Jayon Brown, LB/UCLA
6- 217. Corey Levin, OG/Chattanooga
7 - 227. Josh Carraway, EDGE/TCU
7 - 236. Brad Seaton, OT/Villanova
7 - 241. Khalfani Muhammad, RB/California
The Titans needed to add playmaking on both sides of the ball and to some extent, they succeeded. I like Davis, Jackson and Taylor, but if I'm being totally honest, I think they reached with each of their first four picks. After those selections came five developmental choices. They got better this weekend, but I really believe it should have been a much more significant draft for Tennessee.
WASHINGTON REDSKINS (B+)
1 - 17. Jonathan Allen, INTERIOR/Alabama
2 - 49. Ryan Anderson, EDGE/Alabama
3 - 81. Fabian Moreau, CB/UCLA
4 - 114. Samaje Perine, RB/Oklahoma
4 - 123. Monte Nicholson, S/Michigan State
5 - 154. Jeremy Sprinkle, TE/Arkansas
6 - 199. Chase Roullier, C/Wyoming
6 - 209. Robert Davis, WR/Georgia State
7 - 230. Josh Harvey-Clemons, S/Louisville
7 - 235. Joshua Holsey, CB/Auburn
The Redskins robbed the draft with the selection of Jon Allen at #17 and added very solid potential Sunday contributors in Ryan Anderson, Fabian Moreau, Samaje Perine and Jeremy Sprinkle. They also made a couple of intriguing value picks in Robert Davis and Josh Harvey-Clemons. It was an all-in-all solid weekend for the team without a GM.
